Vatican City

View from St. Peter's dome

St. Peter's square and the city of Rome as seen from the dome of St. Peter's basilica. The colonnades were built by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini between 1656 and 1666. An Egyptian obelisk from the 19th-18th Century BCE, that was brought to Rome in the year 37 by the Roman Emperor Caligula, was placed here in 1585.
